In fact, they ended up telling me I should go out and buy another company's Blu-Ray software to use on the machine. After a few months, the computer failed to recognize Blu-Ray discs and customer service was of no help. They drop the ball and totally fail to stand behind their product.Too bad this is such a spoiler, because most everything else about the machine has been very good. But the pointed unwillingness to recognize that their product should do what it was sold to do is infuriating.and this was within the original warranty period.
Now I will try another brand. I attempted to see if they would exchange these slimlines for a larger traditional desktop. I am now sending them both back again after another nightmarish experience with the overseas technical suppport. They would not. This is my first negative review to write about any company or product but I am compelled.
Prior to my experience with their technical support and customer service I would have bought another HP. Their technical support team claimed that it is because of the small size and compenents. Both desktops broke down within the first two months within 3 weeks of each other. I purchased two slimlines about 8 months ago. After a nightmare with their technical support I sent them both back to be repaired.
I was willing to pay more.
However for someone that wants good performance for office applications and average games this is a great space saving machine.HP Pavilion S3420F Slimline Desktop PC (AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core 5400+ Processor, 3 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) The only issues I have experienced are due to Vista which would not read my network drive, and had an issue with one or two of my older programs. The computer was received promptly which is what I have typically found when ordering through Amazon. This is the first computer I have purchased for some time, I usually build them, but the small size and low price made this impractical. I also found that this was a good way to try out Windows Vista without the pain of a fresh install, not to mention the cost which is only a little less than the price of this computer. All in all the computer works well and appears to be reliable. But for the most part Vista is ok.Getting back to the computer, it is not a machine for someone that wants to adjust performance etc, because the two card slots are not full height so upgrading sound and video will be difficult.
Great price, quite fast, and BluRay works nicely in Media Center. However, the fan is a little too loud, it does not have Wireless N built in (I checked, but I could be wrong), and it should have an eSata port for an external drive to support HD playback.Overall, I am very pleased.
The TV connector in the back helps with space, so we only need a monitor, and not a tv, monitor, desk, etc etc. Hope it works, and there are no other issues once I get it running. They say 3 gb of RAM, but I got 4. Very pleased with HP's support, not to pleased with the purchase. Very good computer for the price, just waiting to actually be able to use it.
Expecting it back in a few days from the repair place. On the other hand, from what I saw, it works well. 500 gb of space means i can save my shows and not worry about running out of space. Kind of disappointed, since I have not been able to use the tower, or the monitor i purchased through amazon. I bought this about 3 weeks ago, maybe a bit longer, and the first week i had it i had to call up HP and have it sent in for repairs.
There shouldnt be any reason I need to send it in for repairs the first week of using it. Evidentally they all do, but the computer only utilizes 3 gb, and the other 1 is for cache.
